Canon Sees Falling Inkjet Sales

Canon is seeing a decline in sales of its inkjet printer division, which the company attributes to contracting personal computer sales. However, the company is determined to gain share through household sales and new products.
The company currently has approximately 15 percent share of the inkjet printer market, but Chief Executive Kensaku Konishi is aiming for 20 percent by the end of 2011. “With PC market saturating, the function of inkjets is also diminishing and so are their sales. Declining PC market is threatening this segment now, but using inkjet multifunction and new products we will try to increase sales again from the fourth quarter (beginning October,” Konishi was quoted by The Economic Times.
Part of Konishi’s plan is to build its laser printer market share to 35 percent and its copier machine business to 25 percent. Canon currently holds 30 percent of the laser printer segment and 24 percent of the copier machine market. Canon is also looking to expand into the medical equipment market. Konishi’s overall goal is for Canon to reach revenue of Rs 1,650 crore this year.
