Canon Officially Releases The Pixma Pro-1 Photo Printer

Life-size Mustang created in paper

Canon unveiled the new Pixma Pro-1 Expert Inkjet Printer, the first addition to its Pixma Pro lineup in over two years, at their Legends in Imaging event on the eve of the PhotoPlus Expo 2011 held in New York City and, of course, we were there to cover the action.

The printer carries 12 individual inks cartridges and is said so that you can print A3+ photos as much as 4800×2400 dpi, meaning that this is one of those occasions exactly where the number of megapixels your camera has the truth is matters.

On one hand, 36ml is competitive, but getting to lay out 5 to buy an whole ink set at a time is painful. There is no front status display. Whilst the display is most useful ironing out troubles with Wi-Fi connections--which the Pro-1 lacks--they do come in convenient for other sorts of diagnostics. Finally, you will find a couple of very Big downers. it is not even close to the R3000 on paper handling.

Enhanced media handling will incorporate two rear feeds as opposed to the front feed we saw on the Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II. The top rear tray will hold 20 sheets of paper ideal for glossy media Although the manual feed can take one sheet at a time, good for thicker fine art materials.

The Canon Pixma Pro-1 is expected to go for $999.99, with $35.99 for replacement ink cartridges, and is said to begin shipping a few time in early November.
