$50 Brother Wi-Fi Laser Printer from Staples

CNET's Rick Broida once again brings us the greatest tech deals on the net through his blog, The Cheapskate.
For this one, Broida takes us through being able to get the Brother HL-2170W Wi-Fi laser printer for only $49.99. He warns us not to be surprised by the fact that a quick look at the product page will tell you that the printer is up for grabs for $69.99, a good $20 more than what Broida is sharing as the cost for the printer; it is not necessarily, however, going to be your initial cash outlay for the machine. Getting the price trimmed down to $49.99 is a deal that, according to Broida's own words, will require you to ”jump through a few hoops”.
Okay, so it's not straight forward, but according to Broida, it will well be worth the effort. And the reason why we are sharing this with you? Rick Broida says he is the proud owner of this specific printer model, and if the experts love it, what will make us not love it as well???
The $69.99 price on the Staples product page is the price after a $30 mail-in rebate. The rebate will be in the form of a prepaid Visa debit card; its not exactly green backs, but it is as good as cash. And it is by far a safer way of receiving money back through the mail. Now, in order to bring the total cost for the printer down to $49.99, you need to make another purchase and then use a $20-off coupon code from DealNews. There are four coupon codes that you can use, and what may inspire you further to jump at the offer is that each code has an attached charity beneficiary to which Staples will donate 5% of your purchase price, simply for using the codes. The charities are Ashoka, Hispanic Heritage foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and Earth Force.
We've warned you before about immediately jumping at deals such as this, where you need to make an extra purchase to get a deal and end up buying something you don't need. Broida suggests getting a box of 100 paper clips for 79 cents – that certainly is not a bad buy considering you're getting $20 off a great machine – and helping a charity at the same time! And what more – they're shipping the printer to you as well, so you do not even have to leave the house.
